With a trading history of almost 200 years, White & Sons are known for being proactive in their support of local charities, clubs and fund-raising/awareness events. Because of this, in 2006 we were asked to support Surrey Air Ambulance (SAA). To our surprise Surrey was one of only a few counties in the UK who did not have its own dedicated Helicopter Emergency Medical Service.
Fantastic news came the following year, when in June 2007 the appeal met its fundraising target, enabling Surrey to have its own dedicated Air Ambulance.
Now airborne, Surrey Air Ambulance has the huge task of meeting its running costs which are in the region of £1.5 million.
The charity’s dependence on local businesses is obvious, as amazingly, the Air Ambulance receives no government or national lottery funding.
Flying unhindered at over 150 miles per hour, Surrey Air Ambulance crews, which include a doctor as well as paramedics, are able to attend medical emergencies in a fraction of the time taken by a land ambulance, with the entire county within reach in minutes.
