Martin Bird (Birdman to his friends) Manager of White & Sons Horley Branch was narrowly beaten by Paula Radcliffe and Kara Groucher having completed the Great North Run in two hours two minutes and 54 seconds – only sixty six minutes behind the leader!
The Great North Run takes place in Newcastle and is a gruelling half marathon, 13.1 miles up and down hills. Says Martin “To be perfectly honest I was completely exhausted and my legs felt like jelly for three days afterwards, but it was great competing, and even better making some useful sponsorship money for the Surrey Air Ambulance”.
White & Sons are sponsoring Surrey Air Ambulance as their chosen charity. The Surrey Air Ambulance helicopter is based at Dunsfold Park and has already saved many lives having started the service in June of this year. As the charity receives no government or lottery funding it relies solely on donations.
