Why recycle toner cartridges & mobile phones?

Throughout the world millions of tonnes of hard, non-biodegradable plastic and loose toner powder are deposited in landfill sites from cartridges, inkjets and mobile phones, which ought to be recycled. The environmental implications of this are obvious, but the material resource waste should also be considered.

Current statistics show that only 5% of empty toner cartridges are currently being recycled - this means 95% of these items are simply discarded and end up in landfill sites.  Toner and ink cartridges can take over 1000 years to decompose, with the cadmium in one handset battery potentially contaminating up to 600,00 litres of water!   This is environmentally disastrous!

Kellie Wakeford, Practice Manager says “Not only will recycling toner cartridges and handsets help to reduce the 30 million or so dumped in landfill sites each year, but it will also help to obtain much needed funds for the Surrey Air Ambulance.  We have arranged for our used cartridges and handsets to be collected with the proceeds being paid directly to SAA.”

White & Sons are calling on all local businesses and residents to send them your empty cartridges and handsets.

Kellie says “I may live to regret this, but please don’t throw your cartridges or handsets away, instead send them to, or drop them into one of our offices”.
