WHITE & SONS VALUE A LEGO HOUSE

Lego HouseWhite & Sons Partner, Kim Ferguson was asked to value a house built entirely of Lego by BBC presenter James May, which features in his new series James May’s Toy Stories due to be screened later this year. Set high up above Denbies Vineyard the property has amazing views over the vineyard to Box Hill, Leith Hill and beyond. Says Kim “ I have certainly valued a few unusual properties in my time, and after 35 years in the business I really didn’t think I would come across anything I had not valued before, but this one certainly takes the biscuit. Believe it or not it is actually a functional house with a shower that works and Lego furniture. The only omission is a kitchen sink, so it would only suit a purchaser willing to live on takeaways. I don’t think James was particularly pleased with the value I put on it, but you will need to see the programme to hear the result”.

For those who are worried that an infringement of the Green Belt may have take place the house is, of course temporary and will probably have been removed by the time this article appears. James May is pictured standing by the front door to the property.

40 YEARS WITH WHITE & SONS!

Tim KennyTim Kenny FRICS FAAV joined White & Sons in Spring 1969 as a trainee surveyor on the enormous salary of £750 per annum. He quickly became qualified even gaining the highest marks in the country in his Agricultural Valuers exams – a feat duplicated by his predecessor, Stuart Walker. He rode swiftly through the ranks becoming a Partner, then Senior Partner and now is a Consultant mainly specialising in planning appeals, public inquiries and compensation claims. For those too young to remember or old enough to have forgotten 1969 was notable for:-

  • A 2 bedroom house locally cost £4,000
  • White & Sons were selling new Georgian style detached houses for £11,000.
  • Everyone used manual typewriters there being no fax, email, mobile phones or computers.
  • The Americans sent the first man to the moon.
  • The E Type Jaguar was the must have car.
  • The inaugural flight of the jumbo jet arrived at Heathrow and hem lines reached an all time high.

SURREY AIR AMBULANCE FUND FLIES HIGH

Surrey Air AmbulanceA marquee at Redhill Aerodrome was recently transformed into a 1940’s style ballroom for the ‘Air Aid Ball’ which raised £54,000 for the Surrey Air Ambulance Fund.  White and Sons helped sponsor and organise this biennial event where guests at the Second World War themed event were transported back in time.

The evening began with a spectacular thirty minute flying display involving a Spitfire, Hurricane and the Guinot Wing-Walkers – the World’s only formation wing walking team, it all got underway after the sounding of an air raid siren, similar to those used during the blitz.

Composer and lyricist Richard Stilgoe was compere for the night and treated the seated diners to a humorous topical piece, he also introduced historical recordings of British Prime Ministers – Neville Chamberlain and Winston Churchill.

The evening also included an auction with money can’t buy items like a ‘home cooked meal for eight by celebrity chef Tony Tobin’ and a trip to the Belgian F1 Grand Prix with Paddock privileges – the auction alone raised £21,000 and after a three course meal – there was dancing with music supplied by 16 piece band ‘String of Pearls’.

Julie Jenkinson, Surrey County Fundraiser for Air Ambulance said “It was an incredible evening for everyone involved – guests and organisers alike.  We had incredible support from local businesses, but then to go on and raise a staggering £54,000 is just amazing.”

The Air Aid Ball is biennial – to find out more, visit www.surreyairambulance.co.uk

The Air Ambulance service in Kent, Surrey and Sussex costs around £3 million annually to stay airborne.  Receiving no funding from the National Lottery the charity relies almost entirely upon the generosity of the public to support the two helicopters, based at Marden and Dunsfold.
